I dont know where you get this idea that high school runners dont get much recognition. Its maybe not a whole lot, but its definitely there.

Sure, there is some recoginition, but what I am saying is that is not the reason why they run. If they were doing it mostly for the recognition they're numerous other sports with larger fan bases where they could easily acheive a lot more recognition...

Yes, meaning whether your a world class runner or an occasional road race runner, either way, you do it cause your passionate about it and you love to run. Runner's run because thats what they love to do. Regardless of whether or not they are receiving recognition for it.

When looking at high school athletes in Nevada as I said they receive little recognition, that being that at my high school if our basketball or football team would make it to the first round of playoffs and lose they would still receive more recognition then if our cross country team would get if we had won state. It's a sport designed for those who love it to enjoy not for spectators ;P

Yes, meaning whether you're a world class basketball player or an occasional ball player, either way, you do it because you're passionate about it and you love to play basketball. Basketball players ball because thats what they love to do, regardless of whether or not they are receiving recognition for it.

I am willing to bet that all athletes, regardless of their respective sport, do it for the love of the sport and for recognition. To say that high school runners in Nevada receive little recognition is not true. Just because your school did/would not give recognition to running doesnt mean its non existent (my school gave recognition). There are LOTS of high school runners in Nevada and pay attention to the other runners. Not only high school runners, but plenty of runners outside high school pay attention as well. I dont know where you get this idea that high school runners dont get much recognition. Its maybe not a whole lot, but its definitely there.

PS: I have no hard feelings against basketball or football either, I love watching their games too and am friends with most of them. Just saying that's how things are.

So tell me....in cross country, what is a "good box"? What does it matter? We draw boxes to lend some organization to the process of running a meet. IMO...there no "good boxes". Take a poll of coaches and I'm sure you will get differing opinions...some like the middle, some like the ends.

Starting boxes were drawn by putting the school names in a hat and picking them out 1 by 1.

"it appears if your in the in crowd or are the coach of a popular program all the headlines are about those kids and those teams"

Well if you're "in the crowd" or a coach of a "pupolar team" then most likely they deserve the recognition.. People don't get "in the crowd" and schools don't become a "popular program" unless they are having success and putting up good times.

And as for headlines and stuff, I don't think the athletes are too worried about that, seeing that most high school runners are aware of the fact that if they make it to the state meet, hardly anyone in the school will know. If they wanted headlines and such they could have played football to be on the front page of the school newspaper.

Runner's don't run for recognition, they run because they like to run and are passionate about it...

In regards to the starting boxes, they really aren't that big of a deal. If your faster than another runner, you're gonna beat them no matter what box you're in. And if you took the time to look at the polls and actually look through the list of the starting box's it seems pretty random to me..

How were the starting boxes chosen? Seem a little unfair, This is from a concerned parent. There really seems to be a bias toward certain teams in this association and it has shown its self all season, it appears if your in the in crowd or are the coach of a popular program all the headlines are about those kids and those teams. Can't wait until the state meet we will let the runners decide.
