Vashti Cunningham Signs Pro Contract with NIKEPublished by
Vashti Cunningham, a senior at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, signed a professional contract Monday with NIKE. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cunningham won the IAAF World Indoor high jump gold medal Sunday in Portland, Oregon clearing 6 feet, 5 inches (1.96m). This was the first time a U.S. high school athlete has won an IAAF World Championship and Cunningham became the youngest world indoor winner in any event (18 years, 62 days). Last week, at the USATF Indoor Championships, Cunningham won the event clearing 6-6.25 (1.99m), setting a World Junior Indoor record. According to her father, former NFL quarterback, Randall Cunningham, Vashti has earned a "vacation" and then will continue training with her club team, The Nevada Gazelles.
