Ron Resler Invitational

The Ron Resler Invitational, hosted by Boulder City HS, will be held Friday April 1.

Here’s a preview of what you'll see

Boys

Sprints -

The #1 sprinter in the state, Tre James from Las Vegas HS, comes into the meet with a 10.53/21.10 and may be challenged by Coronado’s DaQu’an Davis in the 100 and teammate Donovan Stewart in the 200.  In the 400, Desert Pines’ Amari Calvillo-Stewart will be looking to break 49 as he goes up against Centennial’s Tre Harley.

Distance –

Good battles here starting with the 800 as Matt Caldeleria from Coronado looks to improve on his 1:55.88.  He’ll be up against 3 seniors, Zack Woods, Desert Oasis (1:59.39), Dominic Roberts, Centennial (1:59.53) and Basic’s Kendrick Peterson (2:00.25).

One of the highlights of the meet will be in the 1600 as state leaders Faith Lutheran’s Chase Woods (4:23.67) renews his rivalry with Green Valley’s Austin Rogers (4:27.15).  Sub 4:20 maybe??

Woods leads the field in the 3200 (9:49.68) with newly sub 10 performer, Green Valley sophomore Milton Amezcua (9:58.82)

Hurdles –

Perhaps an all-round down year for hurdlers as only 1 athlete in the field comes in under 15.00.  Moapa Valley’s multi-event star, RJ Hubert, who has been nursing an early season injury, leads with a 14.72. If he’s not 100%, he’ll be challenged by Centennial’s Savon Scarver (15.04) and Liberty’s David Livingston (15.08).  Scarver leads the 3’s with a fine 38.99 that he ran at the NIKE-Chandler Invitational.  Washington (39.62) and teammate Arie McQuaig also come into the meet having run sub-40.

Relays –

These will be exciting! In the 4x100, Coronado (42.56), Centennial (42.58) and Las Vegas (52.59) are separated by just 3/100ths of a second. In the 4x2, Las Vegas will most likely anchor Tre James as they come in with a best of 1:28.06.  They will be challenged by Valley, Centennial, Rancho and Desert Pines….all under 1:30 this season.  Centennial and D1A power, Desert Pines have the best times with 3:24.52 and 3:24.87 respectively.  The 4x8 looks like Green Valley in a runaway.  They have 20 seconds on the #2 team in the field with their 8:05.00

Jumps –

With state leader, Basic’s Frank James (6-10) not competing, the HJ is wide open with 4 athletes over 6-00.  Coronado’s Garrett Furlong leads with 6-04.  Three athletes are over 14-00 in the PV, with Basic’s Justin Perez (14-09), Liberty’s Devon Ecklund (14-08) and Centennial’s Blake Rhynes (14-00).  In the LJ,  Rancho’s Robert Howard (21-10) leads the field of 9 jumpers over 20’.  In the TJ, Centennial’s James Johnson (46-2) has about a 3’ advantage over Del Sol’s Myles Dunn (43-5).  Fifteen jumpers in the field over 40’.

Throws –

Liberty’s excellent throw crew will score a lot of team points here.  They enter 3 over 50’ in the shot with state #2 thrower Nicholas Tapuala (56-06.25).  Look for a PR from Nicholas on the “friendly” shot venue at Boulder City.  In all, 5 throwers come in over 50’.  Boulder City’s Samuel Gomez may have something to say about the gold medal as he comes in with a 54-04 mark.  In the discus, there are 5 over 150’ with state leader, Cyrius Vea (173-09).  Gomez comes in at 172-00, Tapuala at 166-07, Nick Benham from Desert Oasis at 162-02 and freshman sensation, Liberty’s Corey Moore at 155-3.

Girls

Sprints –

Arbor View senior, Madison Aldred is #1 seed in the 100 (12.14) and 400 (56.61), but they will be a few hoping to unseat the state leader.  In the 100, Rancho’s Tatianna Pamplin (12.34), Valley’s Esmeralda Tenorio (12.46) will challenge.  With Aldred not in the 200, keep your eyes on Centennial’s Payton Green (25.63), Tenorio (25.85), Centennial’s Elize Larsen (26.12) and Pamplin (26.14).  Aldred may have her toughest competition in the 400 with Centennial’s Karina Haymore (57.44) (…not bad for the State XC Champion!!) and Coronado’s Linnea Saltz (57.68).

Distance –

Here’s where Centennial sews up the team championship. In the 800 it will be Haymore (2:18.75) and Alexis Gourrier (2:21.65).  Look for Coronado’s Catherine Sanders (2:22.21) and Linnea Saltz (2:22.29) to challenge.  Centennial has 3 of the top 4 girls entered in the 1600, Gourrier (5:09.78), Kayla Roberts (5:23.10) and Kaitlynn Menger (5:37.06).  Top freshman distance runner, Desert Oasis’ Madelyn Doerr (5:19.50) will challenge.  The Bulldogs will have the top 3 girls in the 3200 with Gourrier (11:16.67), Halie McGannon (11:55.34) and freshman McKenzie Morgan (12:04.10). Number 4 ranked, Green Valley’s Amy Amezcua (12:04.10) will be looking to be pulled through to a sub 12:00.

Hurdles –

Battle brewing here!!  Green Valley’s Charleen Jordan (14.44) and Centennial’s Talie Bonds (14.64) should be unchallenged by the field as they go for the early-season title of top hurdler in Nevada.  Both will hook up in the 3’s with Bonds at 45.96 and Jordan at 46.23.  In all, 8 girls are under 50 in the 300’s.

Relays –

With Aldred anchoring the 4x1(49.24) and 4x2 (1:43.80), it will be Arbor View’s to lose.  Valley (49.54)  and Del Sol (49.94) will be looking to capitalize and any AV miscue.  It doesn’t look like anyone will challenge AV in the 4x200. In the 4x4, Centennial leads the field and the state with 3:58.00. Valley comes in with a 4:00.0 and Coronado with A 4:02.0.  With Green Valley running freshman star Debbie Grant and anchoring with Charleen Jordan, they have a shot.  In the 4x8, it looks like Coronado (9:40.00) and Centennial (9:50.00) as the class of the field.  If Centennial loads the 4x800, watch out!

Jumps –

No Vashti, so we’re back to normal in the HJ.  Three girls lead the seeding at 5-02.  Arbor View’s Danica Hammond, Centennial’s Talie Bonds and Faith Lutheran’s Bryanna Neagle.

In the Pole Vault, the battle for Southern Supremacy will be among 4 girls over 10-00.  Arbor View’s Kaitlin Gibb (11-00), Liberty’s Gabby Carson (11-00) and Elizabeth Branigan (10-06) and Foothill’s Charleigh Allen (10-00).

Two girls over 16-00 highlight the LJ field with Centennial’s Aliyah Wyrick (16-08) and Green Valley’s Yamilei Rodriguez (16-05). In the Triple, 6 girls over 33-00 with leader, Valley’s, Eimainei Thomas-Palmer at 36-00. Next closest challenger is Green Valley’s Eboni Thomas at 34-11.50.

Throws –

Five girls over 34-00 in the shot as leader, Centennial’s Kaina Falefitu (35-10) tries to add 10 more points to their team score.  Sunrise Mountain will score big with Isis Bryant at 35-05.75, as will Liberty with Litia Ortquist (35-04.5) and Las Vegas’ Cjenna Heiden (35-04.5).  Liberty will score huge in the discus as they have the top 3 seeded girls with Ortquist (119-11) Amy Vaiao (109-2) and Adrianna Vaiao (108-7).  There are 8 girls in the field over 100-00.
